There was joy and excitement at St. Phillip Teddi Community Primary School in Amuru Sub County, Amuru District on Friday following the unveiling of the newly constructed classroom buildings worth UGX 1 billion, thanks to Suubi Foundation, a non-governmental organization working to improve education standards in the Acholi Sub region.
The development marks a new chapter for the school, which for years operated under grass-thatched classrooms and under trees.
The foundation constructed four classroom blocks, each comprising of three classrooms and office block.
It also built a modern kitchen to strengthen the school feeding programme, constructed two staff housing blocks with two units each, and has begun the establishment of modern sports facilities for learners.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Phillips Nduga, the Founder of Suubi Foundation Uganda, said the decision to support St. Phillip Teddi Community Primary School was aimed at extending quality education services to learners in hard to reach communities.
Geoffrey Orsbon Oceng, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner (RDC), applauded the Suubi Foundation for partnering with the Government of Uganda to improve access to quality education.
Geoffrey Otema, the Vice Chairperson of the School Management Committee, expressed gratitude to the Suubi Foundation Uganda for responding to the school’s long standing infrastructure needs. He said the modern facilities will create a better teaching and learning environment, attract more learners to enroll, and improve completion rates at the primary level.
