At least three youths were on Tuesday morning arrested for presenting fake academic documents at the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment exercise for West Acholi Sub region taking place at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu City.
The suspects who include Okello Benson, Daniel Oola and Eca Brian were arrested over fake Uganda Certificate of Education Certificates and detained at Gulu city Central Police Station.
11 youths were also disqualified due to lack of national identity card while another 50 youths who had not been pre-selected but turned up to join the army, were also turned away.
Captain Hassan Kato, the UPDF Fourth Division Public Information Officer, confirmed the arrest of the suspects but that the exercise went on well with applicants going through physical fitness, body checks and blood tests. Kato said that 151 youth will be selected from the shortlist of 181 to join the army.
Kato said the exercise started with applicants from Omoro, Gulu and Gulu city on Tuesday while Nwoya and Amuru will be held on Wednesday.
