The number of suspected cholera cases in Kitgum District has risen to four after three additional cases were reported at Kitgum General Hospital.

According to Titus Komakech, the Kitgum District Surveillance focal person, all three new cases are from the same family in Lobene East, Labongo Akwang Sub-county.

Komakech revealed that two out of the three new cases tested positive for Cholera strain 01, while the third case is still awaiting sample testing for confirmation.

He explained that the district surveillance team visited the home and village of the suspected cases and identified 37 contacts, one of whom is showing symptoms and is being brought to the hospital to prevent further spread of the disease.

This brings to four suspected cholera cases reported in Kitgum district in a space of two days.

On Monday, one suspected case was reported and is currently admitted at Kitgum General Hospital after testing positive.

Komakech urged residents to practice good hygiene, drink safe water, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of cholera are experienced.
