The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has honored its pledge of 24 million Shillings to support the families of civilians fatally shot and others injured by an elite soldier from the Special Forces Command (SFC) in Agago District.

The pledge was delivered on Monday by the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, to the relatives and family members of the victims at Ngora East village in Paimol Sub-county, Agago District.

This comes nearly a month after 45-year-old Private Bonny Ameny, deployed at Pakor Dungu detach in Parabongo sub-county shot three people dead and injured three others from Ngora East village on October 21.

Lt Gen Okiding who represented the Chief of Defence Forces General Muhoozi Kainerugaba handed over 5 million Shillings each to families of the deceased and 3 million shillings each to those who were injured.

The victims of the shooting are Santino Akidi 47, Sunday Apiyo 21, and Florence Ajalo Florence 16. Those injured included Charles Kidega 45, who was shot in both legs, Janet Apio 20, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Blessing Agenorwot Blessing.

Private Ameny who surrendered to the army late last month is reported to have opened fire at innocent civilians following a domestic he had with his wife.

Sources reported that Ameny had suspected his wife was having an extramarital affair with another man in Paimol Sub-county after leaving her home in Oyam District. Private Ameny was set to appear before the Fifth Division Court Martial for trial on Tuesday in Ngora East village where the incident happened.
