UPDF To Recruit 291 Youth from Acholi

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) is set to recruit 291 youth from Acholi sub-region.At 53, Nwoya District was allocated the largest quota, according to a statement released by the force on May 21, 2024.

Agago District received the second largest slot at 44. Others are Kitgum and Amuru, each 39, Gulu City (38), Omoro (36), Pader (35), Lamwo (25), and Gulu 21, in that order.

The infantry will undergo an intensive army drill before they can be deployed to defend the country against the enemy. The over 290 youth are among 9,627 young Ugandans who will join the force this year as new recruits.

Among the qualifications for those interested in joining the national army are, Ugandan national between the age of 18 and 22, physically fit, possesses UCE certificate, and has no criminal records.

The two weeks’ recruitment exercise will kick off on July 1, and will climax on July 14.

Capt. Hassan Ahmad Kato, the 4th Division Infantry Public Information Officer warned those interested in joining the UPDF against presenting forged documents during recruitment. Capt. Kato said anyone who is found to have attempted to get enlisted into the army using fake documents will arrested and prosecuted in the courts of law.  Ends
