Ten National Unity Platform-NUP foot soldiers are in police custody in Lira, accused of damaging police properties, including a motor vehicle.

The said vehicle Reg. No. UP 4816 is said to have been assigned to Julius Isabirye from the Criminal Investigations Headquarters for surveillance duties during the NUP presidential campaign rally, operating under cover using registration UBK 380Q.

It is alleged that on Tuesday at Obot Primary School, Obot Parish, Barr Sub-county in Lira District along the Lira–Alebtong highway near, the suspects and others, still at large, while using a motor vehicle Reg. No. UAN 925Q and a greenish drone Reg. No. UA 933AU blocked the police vehicle abruptly before proceeding to deflate all four tires using sharp metallic objects.

They allegedly grabbed the car key chip sensor, robbed Isabirye and his driver, Peter Muhungo, of a Dell laptop computer valued at 1.5 million Shillings, two 20-liter jerrycans of diesel fuel, and a bag of clothes belonging to the detective.

Preliminary findings suggest that the attackers suspected the vehicle to be carrying a signal jammer interfering with their online communication network, as it had been seen following their campaign trail across several districts.

However, Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, accused police of waylaying his people and arresting them without cause. Bobi, who believes his team has been disciplined and law-abiding, said they will not be intimidated.
