12 people were murdered every day, according to the Police crime report of 2024.
Altogether, 4,329 people were killed in 2024 through assault, poisoning, arson, shooting, domestic violence or mob action.
The murders increased by 1.9% countrywide compared to 4,248 cases of murders in 2023 that were recorded by police.
There were 1,339 cases of assault resulting in death, followed by murder by mob action with 1,016, murder by strangulation with 491, murder by hacking with 310 cases and 326 people were killed by the use of blatant objects.
268 people were stabbed to death, 188 were shot dead, while 183 died in aggravated domestic violence.
Additionally, a total of 108 people died as a result of poisoning, 72 died in ritual murders and 30 were killed through acts of arson.
Meanwhile, Luwero district has registered the highest number of cases of murder by mob action in 2024, followed by Kampala, Mpigi, Buikwe and Kakumiro.
Wakiso district also had the highest number of cases of murder by strangulation, while Kotido district had the highest cases of murder by shooting, followed by Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Mbarara Kabong Mukono, Kira Division and Agago.
The report also shows that murder as a result of domestic violence was registered highest in Ntungamo district, followed by Apac, Mubende, Kyenjojo and Kumi.
