The 2023 Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE) results have been released with better performance and a drop in failure rate and absenteeism.
According to the result 64,782 who sat for the exams, passed in first grade 1 as compared to 46,667 who sat for the exams in 2022.
Failure rate also dropped by 0.5%, meaning 329, 939 (95.9%) who sat for the exams can progress the post UCE level.
A total of 361, 695 candidates registered for the 2023 UCE Examination as compared to 345, 695 in 2022,” UNEB said in a statement.
According to UNEB Executive Director Dan Nokrach Odongo, overall, male candidates performed better than their female counterparts.
However female candidates performed better in English language that their male counterparts.
Odongo adds that there was noticeable drop in performance in History, Agriculture and physic and significant improvement in English, Math, Biology and CRE.
The 2023 candidates were the last cohort of learners that sat for the UCE examinations under the old curriculum.
UNEB chairperson Prof. Celestino Obua said the exam body is ready to administer the 2024 exams under the competency based curriculum.
