By Tolit Ivan

A25year old man committed suicide on Tuesday in Pajule Town Council in Pader District after losing UGX 1.2M and a mobile phone to unknown thieves.

Simon Okello‘s body was, at around 2pm, found dangling inside his grass thatched hut by a relative who went to check on him.

It is alleged that on Sunday evening, at unknown hour, unknown thugs broke into a mobile money shop which was being operated by Okello, now deceased, and stole UGX 1.2M and a phone he had been using to operate a mobile money business.

According to reports, since the incident, Okello had not been himself despite his boss, one Ojok Samuel, adding him more money to continue with the business.

On Tuesday, at around 10am, Okello allegedly entered his house and only to be discovered dangling inside his room.

The incident comes shortly after the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, Rt. Rev. Vincent Kirabo Amooti, has called on Christians to intensify prayers aimed at preventing suicide, citing it as one of the leading causes of death worldwide.

The Bishop expressed concern over the rising incidence of suicide, describing it as a growing threat to human life and well-being globally.

Citing World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, he noted that about 720,000 people die by suicide each year, averaging nearly 2,000 deaths per day.
