The Uganda Prisons Service has announced a new round of postings and transfers affecting senior officers across the country, with Gulu District receiving a major leadership boost.
According to a press release dated 2nd December 2025, and posted on the official Uganda Prisons Service X page, the new appointments are part of efforts to strengthen professionalism and improve service delivery within the institution.
A key highlight of the announcement is the appointment of Senior Superintendent of Prisons, SP Peter Muheki as the new District Prisons Commander for Gulu.
Muheki, who has been serving under the Intermediate Command and Staff Course, will now take full charge of Gulu’s prison operations with his new role including overseeing security, staff management, and the welfare of inmates across the district.
This deployment is among several affecting 57 senior officers who recently completed the Intermediate Command and Staff Course.
Some officers have been transferred to new duty stations, others assigned new responsibilities, while a few have proceeded on accumulated leave while others posted to Upper Prisons to take up new duties immediately.
Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson Frank Baine Mayanja emphasized that all changes take effect immediately and directed regional and district commanders to supervise all handovers and takeovers to ensure a smooth transition.
