The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao and Laroo-Pece Division Member of Parliament elect has revealed that he has held a discussion with the Speaker of Parliament Anet Anita Among over what he described as rumours about his ambition for the parliament’s top job.

He dismissed claims that his return to elective politics is part of a scheme to advance an ambition to become the next Speaker of Parliament.

Mao, who is also the Democratic Party president general, made a surprise return to elective politics in November last year.

During his maiden campaign meetings, Mao told supporters that his decision to contest was made following guidance from President Yoweri Museveni.

The revelation fuelled speculation that his candidacy could be a stepping stone toward the powerful job in parliament.

Addressing journalists at his home in Unyama Sub- County, in Gulu District, Mao explained that he hadn’t given a thought about such an ambition, saying the claims were being driven by what he termed rumour-mongers.

Mao admitted he has held a discussion with Among over what he described as rumours telling her that nobody needs to spread rumours about him having ambition for the parliament’s top job. Mao said if he ever becomes interested in such a role of becoming the speaker of Parliament, he would make it public at the appropriate time.
