A19 year old man has been hospitalized at Omiya-Anyima Health Centre III in Kitgum district after being hit by unexploded ordinance.
Michael Candiya, a resident of Ogili village, was hit on Saturday, at around 8am, after he tried to break the device using an axe for reasons best known to him.
Reports say that Candiya after discovering the device, he first put it on fire and later use an axe to break before it exploded, severing both of his legs.
Komakech Walter Oyoo, the Kitgum Deputy Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the unfortunate incident.
The unexploded ordinance is believed to have been left behind during the two decades Lord’s Resistance Army Rebels led insurgency.
More than 600 military explosives have so far been discovered and destroyed in Acholi sub-region by the army since 2010.
