Renewed violent attacks in the disputed Apaa Township, located between Adjumani and Amuru districts have left three people with severe injuries and 20 houses set ablaze in an overnight attack.

Those injured have been identified as Mary Acayo, 50, who sustained injuries on her breast and chest after being cut using machete, Phillips Barigye who was shot by an arrow and one only identified as Muviga, who was reportedly assaulted.

Acayo has since been referred to St Mary`s Hospital Lacor for better medical attention given the injuries sustained.

The trio were attacked by a group of 20 suspected criminals who reportedly crossed from Adjumani district.

The suspects also looted chicken and goats before fleeing the scene.

Anthony Akol, the Kilak north Member of Parliament, confirmed the report saying the attackers are not land grabbers but rather organized criminal gangs.

When contacted, Collins Asea, the North West Nile Police Spokesperson said inquiries into the attacks are ongoing.

In April 2025, security personnel imposed a temporary curfew in some parts of Apaa in a bid to curtail the rampant attacks which led to the death of 2 people.

Apaa has been at the epicenter of armed conflicts between the Madi and Acholi tribesmen of Adjumani and Amuru over its ancestral ownership of the lands. Uganda Wildlife Authorities (UWA) and National Forestry Authority (NFA) also claimed ownership of parts of the area.
