A20 year old peasant farmer was on Tuesday morning trampled to death by stray elephant in Lalworo Odong village, Lakang sub county in Amuru district.
The deceased identified as Boniface Okot was trampled at around 7am from his home, shortly after coming out of his house to go to his garden.
The elephant also injured another person only identified as Onen. He has since been rushed to St Mary’s Kospital Lacor in Gulu City for treatment.
Anthony Oringa, the Local Council Three Chairperson, Lakang sub county confirmed the incident saying a case has been registered with the police.
Geoffrey Orsbon Oceng, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner, said the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has also been notified about the incident.
According to the Uganda Wildlife Act 2019, section 83, the wildlife compensation scheme shall be used for financing compensation claims for human death, injuries or damage to property caused by a wild animal outside a protected area.
