A private health facility in Amuru District has been suspended following the death of a 29-year-old expectant mother under circumstances pointing to alleged medical negligence.

Charity Medical Centre, which operates branches in Amuru Town Council and Amuru Sub-county, was shut down on Monday this week at the directive of Resident District Commissioner Geoffrey Osborn Oceng.

According to information obtained by Mega Fm, the deceased, whose identity was not immediately available, died on March 17 after suffering severe bleeding.

The Amuru District Health Officer, Alfred Okello, confirmed the closure in an interview on Wednesday, citing serious concerns over the handling of the patient.

Dr. Okello explained that the woman first sought medical attention at the facility’s Amuru Town Council branch on March 16.

She was later referred to another branch in Amuru Sub-county for an ultrasound scan, despite already showing signs of active bleeding.

He noted that instead of referring her to a higher-level health facility for emergency care, the medical team retained her as her condition worsened.

The patient was eventually rushed to Lacor Health Centre III on March 17 but was pronounced dead on arrival. Dr. Okello attributed the incident to possible negligence and inadequate professional qualifications among staff at the facility.
