The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) is mourning the death of St Noa Girls secondary School basketball player Maxine Modesta Anyango, who died yesterday during a knee surgery procedure.
Reports indicate that complications arose after medication was administered during the operation, and the procedure was not successful.
In a statement issued by the USSSA President Justus Mugisha, he described Maxine’s death as a painful loss to school sports and Uganda’s basketball fraternity and extended condolences to St Noa Girls School, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations, her family, friends, and the nation at large.
Maxine recently represented St Noa Girls School in the 2026 USSSA Ball Games I basketball championship and had also featured for Uganda at the International School Sport Federation World School Basketball Championship.
