A pregnant woman has died in Amuru district while allegedly receiving treatment at a witchdoctor’s shrine in Olinga village, Pogo Sub County.
19-year old Mercy Apiyo died on Wednesday at 11:00pm in a shrine belonging to Margaret Akongo Ocaya, who was reportedly cleansing her from spiritual attacks.
Janani Loum, the L.C111 Chairperson Pogo Sub County confirmed the report saying the deceased, Apiyo was taken to Akongo for spiritual healing at around 7pm that same evening after her family suspected that she was possessed by evil spirits.
Loum says Apiyo started complaining of headache on Wednesday morning before starting to talk to herself later in the day prompting her family to seek help from a church in the community.
Loum said that the family later sought the services of the witchdoctor after the church failed to heal Apiyo.
The matter was yet to be formally reported to police as her husband’s family, parents family and the witchdoctor were still handling the matter.
The deceased was taken to St Mary’s hospital Lacor in Gulu City for a postmortem.
