Unknown gunmen on Tuesday night gunned down a businessman identified as Morish Ocana from Mission Cell, Kalongo Town Council in Agago District.

Ocana, a resident of Akado West Cell in Kalongo Town Council, was reportedly gunned down at around 7:00pm by two armed assailants who later fled with his bag containing unspecified amount of money.

James Nabinson Kidega, the Agago Resident District Commissioner who doubles as the Chairperson District Security Committee, confirmed the incident saying the decease was attacked shortly after closing his shop.

According to Kidega, the assailants demanded Ocana to surrender his bag containing money but he allegedly refused prompting one of the assailants to shoot him before taking off with the bag.

The now brings to more than 10 cases of gun robbery being registered in Acholi Sub region and four deaths in the past one month.

Recently, Major General Felix Busizoori, Commander of the UPDF Fourth Infantry Division, attributed the rising number of illegal firearms in the region to porous borders, which continue to facilitate the movement of weapons into the region.

On Monday, David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson, said the manner in which the robberies are being carried out suggests that the criminals closely monitor security deployments and patrol operations, something he says enables them to strike and escape before security forces can respond effectively.
