Families of people who died in the recent head-on collision involving an Opit Travellers bus and a trailer in Omoro District have received financial support from the government.

The cash assistance was handed over on Saturday in Gulu City by the Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness, Relief and Refugees, Lillian Aber.

The crash, which occurred on Tuesday night at Lwena Village in Bobi Sub- County along the Gulu-Kampala Highway, claimed 15 lives and left 27 others injured.

Under the government’s intervention, each bereaved family will receive 5 million Shillings to help meet burial expenses, while each injured survivor is entitled to 1 million Shillings to support medical treatment and recovery.

Speaking during the handover, Aber commended Gulu City Council, security agencies, health workers, and other first responders for their coordinated response to the tragedy.

She said the joint effort enabled timely rescue operations, emergency medical care, and support for the victims and their families.
