The highly anticipated 24th edition of the National Health Training Institutions Ball Games has officially kicked off in Gulu City, bringing together thousands of students from health training institutions across Uganda.
The five-day championship, hosted by Gulu College of Health Sciences in Laroo-Pece Division, has attracted 37 health training institutions from across the country with over 2,000 participants taking part in the competition, including 853 female and 1,069 male students.
The tournament began on Monday morning with mind games at the Gulu College of Health Sciences main hall, woodball competitions at Sir Samuel Baker Secondary School, and athletics competition at Sacred Heart Secondary School.
Yabin Ofumba, the Publicity Secretary of the National Organising Committee for the Health Training Institutions Ball Games, said although not all the expected institutions have arrived by the start of the tournament, the scheduled competitions has proceeded as planned.
He revealed that they were still expecting more to come since the targeted institutions are 76, urging the community in Gulu City to rally behind the different institutions to make the game colourful.
The National Health Training Institutions Ball Games bring together students from nursing, midwifery, and allied health training institutions across Uganda to compete in various sporting disciplines while promoting teamwork, physical fitness, and networking among future health professionals.
