The Electoral Commission (EC) has today (Monday) officially launched the roadmap for the Adjumani West parliamentary seat by-election.
The Adjumani West parliamentary seat fell vacant after the death of Gen. Moses Ali on June 18, 2026.
The Electoral Commission spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, told Mega Fm that the Commission is legally mandated to organize and conclude a parliamentary by-election within 60 days after receiving formal notification of the vacancy from the Clerk to Parliament.
According to Mucunguzi, the roadmap will outline all key electoral activities, including the update of the National Voters Register, display of the voters’ register for public verification, nomination of candidates, campaign period and the polling date.
Already nine candidates have shown interest in the Adjumani West Parliamentary seat.
They include Daniel Izale, a Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) endorsed candidate, Justin Mawadri, Richard Madrara, James Leku Pilli, Nixon Owole, Capt. Stephen Mamawi, Ben Anyama and Santos Piro Eruaga, all National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates, and Patrick Tandrupasi.
Gen Ali has been the Adjumani West Legislator since 2016. He also served as the East Moyo County legislator in Moyo District from 1994 to 2016.
