UPDF Recruits 208 Applicants From West Acholi

The Uganda People’s Defense Force-UPDF has recruited a total of 208 youths into the force following the two-days recruitment exercise.

The recruitment exercise took place on the August 11th and 12th at Pece Stadium.

Out of the 208 recruits; 58 were from Gulu city, 30 from Gulu District¸45 from Omoro from, 22 from Nwoya and 53 from Amuru.

Major Bilal Katamba, the UPDF 4th Division Infantry Spokesperson, also the Spokesperson of the recruitment team six told our reporter that the applicants underwent a rigorous recruitment process, which included a 4km run, physical and medical examinations as well verification of original academic documents.

The UPDF is currently undertaking a nationwide recruitment exercise targeting 10,000 new recruits.

Meanwhile, three people have been arrested at Labwor-Dwong Training School in Agago District for allegedly presenting forged Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) recruitment documents during the ongoing recruitment exercise.

The suspects have identified as Winfrey Lanyoro, 25, from Kerala Village, Purongo Sub County in Nwoya district, Tony Katende, 27, from Pawatu Omero village in Purongo sub county and Nancy Agenorwot, 25 also from Pawatu Omero.

They were arrested after officials at Labwor-Dwong training school became suspicious of the documents they presented for verification.

According to Major Bilal Katamba, the Public Information Officer for the UPDF 4 Infantry Division, the suspects allegedly obtained genuine recruitment documents belonging to a qualified applicant, scanned them, and forged copies by replacing the original candidate’s personal details with their own before presenting them during the recruitment exercise.

The three are currently being held at Labwor-Dwong training Centre.
