Four people have drowned in River Nile in Oyam District.
The deceased have been identified as Sebastiano Ojok aged 58, a resident of Diicunyi village, Kamdini Sub County in Oyam District and Hassan Muhammad aged 43, a resident of Kololo village, in Kiryandongo District.
Others are Agenonga Stephen, aged 36, a resident of Nanda Game Village, Laboke Parish, Nyamahasa Sub County in Kiryandongo District and David Ocira alias Museveni aged 36, a resident of Kololo Village, Kiryandongo District.
It is alleged that on Sunday at around 9:30 am at Diicunyi village, Kamdini sub county, Ojok used a boat belonging to Opii Morris of Diicunyi landing site to cross three passengers to Awoo landing site in Kiryandongo District.
However, while crossing the River, the canoe boat capsized with all the occupants.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson says that the search for the capsized canoe boat and bodies was conducted on Monday, but all in vain.
In the 2023 annual crime report, 243 people died, and 323 were rescued in water-related accidents.
