UPDF Helicopter Crash; Five Confirmed Dead

The UPDF has confirmed the death of five people in a helicopter crash in Somalia on Wednesday.   

The helicopter Mi-24, which had eight people on board, including six crew members, was flying from the Balidogle airbase in the Lower Shabelle region.  

Fire broke out after the helicopter crashed at the Aden Adde International Airport. 

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Major General Felix Kulaigye, the Director of Defence Public Information (DDPI), said that five personnel who were on board the plane died. 

According to Kulaigye, the pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer survived the crash with serious injuries and severe burns and were evacuated to the AUSSOM Sector 1 level II Hospital for treatment. 

Kulaigye says that the helicopter was conducting a routine combat escort mission when it crashed.
