The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party Electoral Commission has declared Okot Andrew Obibi as the Omoro district LCV flagbearer for the 2026 presidential general elections.
The results was declared on Tuesday evening from the NRM Party headquarters in Kampala by Anthony Okello, the Omoro District NRM Registrar in the presence of Dr Tanga Odoi, the NRM Chairperson Electoral Commission.
According to the results, Okot garnered 12,887 votes, beating his only rival Okello Peter Douglas Okao, the incumbent district chairperson who got 11,233 votes.
On Friday, Party EC was forced to suspend vote tallying and declaration of results after chaos erupted at the tally centre in Opit Secondary School.
Chaos started when Okot Obibi and his supporters protested the counting of votes from the sub counties of Lakwaya and Labora where he says security operatives altered his results in favor of the incumbent Okello Peter Douglas Okao.
This further led to the nullification of the results by the regional NRM Electoral Commissioner who later summoned the two aspirants, to appear before the NRM Electoral Commission on Tuesday in Kampala to address the matter
In an interview with Mega Fm, Okello Peter Douglas Okao, rejected the results accusing the NRM electoral commission for siding with Okot Obibi by failing to count results from Lakwaya and Labora sub counties where he defeated Obibi. Okello said he is going to sit down with his agents and lawyers to plan for the next move adding that his supporters want him on the ballot.
