Technical Glitches Interrupt Nomination Exercise In Acholi Sub Region

Nomination of candidates for the 2025-2026 General Elections kicked off on wednesday across the country amidst technical glitches in some districts in Acholi sub region.

The exercise started with the nomination of candidates for District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors, including Special Interest Groups which will run from today 3rd-5th Sept 2025.

However, the exercise in Gulu city and Nwoya District was marred by complaints of poor network connectivity that disrupted timely payment of nomination fees.

In Gulu city, the exercise was suspended for about 30 minutes as the EC Information Technology specialists labored to fix it.

In Nwoya, the exercise was interrupted between 10:00am and 1pm due to similar technical glitches, making it difficult to pay nomination fee.

In Omoro district, the incumbent LCV chairperson Okello Douglas Peter Okao was among those nominated under the National Resistance Movement Party Tick.

During the nomination exercise, nine other candidates for the position of councilor V and special Interests groups were also nominated.

Paddy Atuha, the Omoro District Returning Officer, said the nomination commenced well without any problem.

According to EC guidelines, the nomination fee is 200,000 shillings for district chairpersons, while district councilors are required to pay 50,000 shillings each.

Meanwhile, Nomination of Candidates for Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors, including SIGs are set for 8th – 10th Sept, 2025

Nomination of Candidates for Sub County/Town/Municipal Divisions, including SIGs are scheduled for 11th – 24th September 2025

Nomination of Candidates for Presidential Elections in line with Section 9 (1) of the Presidential Elections Act is set for 23rd – 24th September 2025.

And nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections in line with Section 9 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, Cap 177 are scheduled for 15th – 16th Oct 2025.
