Amuru District council has approved a new measure requiring schools to actively participate in co-curricular activities, including sports and music, dance, and drama (MDD), or face a financial penalty.
The resolution, passed during the final full council meeting of the 11th District Council, sets a fine of one million Uganda shillings for schools that fail to send learners for these activities organised by the District.
The meeting was held on April 20th at Pabo Town Council headquarters, where leaders emphasized the importance of co-curricular programs in promoting holistic education and talent development among learners.
The Councillors noted that some schools have been neglecting these activities, focusing only on academic performance at the expense of students’ physical and creative growth.
The new directive aims to ensure equal participation across all schools and to nurture talents that could benefit learners beyond the classroom.
