The Electoral Commission has set March 21, 2024, as a date for the Dokolo Woman Member of Parliament By-election.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal who succumbed to cardiac arrest at a hospital in India where she was being treated for pancreatic cancer.
Unveiling the roadmap at Dokolo Technical School on Monday, the EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama said all the candidates will have only seven days to campaign starting from March 13th to 19th 2024.
He explained that the EC has only a short period to conduct all the electoral processes within the stipulated 60 days from the day the seat fell vacant.
Nomination of candidates will be conducted on March 11th and 12th at the office of the district returning officer.
Several women have expressed interest in the vacant woman MP position including Harriet Ageno, Abang Beatrice Molly, an Independent-leaning NRM aspirant, Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, late Cecilia Atim Ogwal’s daughter, Esther Akullo Obot Otada and Independent-leaning MK Movement, Irene Amongi, an independent and Ruth Francesca Atala Adupa.
Others are Sarah Aguti Nyangkori under the UPC ticket, Janet Rose Adongo Elau, NRM’s flag bearer, Harriet Ageno under the NUP ticket, Rebecca Arao an independent leaning NRM and Christine Acen Otom.
