The election period, so far nearing the end of the presidential and parliamentary campaign phase, has been described by the electoral commission as largely smooth, save for violation of rules by candidates.
The presidential and parliamentary elections laws, as well as the Electoral Commission Act all provide for the conduct expected of all players during the election cycle so as to ensure a credible result and a peaceful end to the exercise.
Julius Mucunguzi, the Electoral Commission Spokesperson, says that violation of regulations by the various players has been the most challenging part in their role of managing these elections so far.
He fears that unless this is checked, it might cause a trend that could go on to affect polling day activities.
The most prominent activities that have been said to be violations of the rules and regulations include holding campaigns in ungazetted areas, which has resulted in going to places where inconvenience to public activity has been cited.
Other candidates have been accused of campaigning beyond the set time limits.
The regulations provide that all campaign activities should end by 6.00 PM.
Campaign venue restrictions have been violated by almost all candidates, especially those that prefer to move door to door, to crowded places to address people there.
