Police in Gulu City are holding four medical personnel for attempting to sit for university exams on behalf of others.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday for attempting to sit mature entry examinations for medical students at Gulu University.
They include Ssempijja Enock (25) from Kampala who had impersonated Mbanadho Isaac, Mukibi Lawrence (39) from Kampala who had impersonated Masosha Esau, Hama Abaho (26) from Ntungamo who had impersonated Omara Samuel and Ainne Williams (28) from Kampala who had impersonated Kyeyone Timothy Wyclip. The police recovered from the suspects forged National Identity cards.
Ojok James Onono, the Gulu University Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.
Attempting to sit for an exam on behalf of another person, or aiding in such a scheme, carries severe consequences under Ugandan law, particularly under the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Act, 2021.
This legislation introduced harsher penalties, with convictions for exam cheating potentially resulting in a 10-year jail term or a UGX 40 million fine.
