Government has again extended the term of office for the current local council I and 11 chairpersons and women councils by 180 more days.
According to Raphael Magyezi, the local government Minister, government is yet to get money to organize the elections as soon as possible.
The current term for LC 1 and LC 2 across the country was set to expire in July, 2023 but government extended it by six months ending Jan. 5, saying it had not received the necessary funding to conduct the elections during this financial year.
According to Magezi, government needs 59 billion shillings to conduct the elections.
