Gulu City boxer Laker Sarah Katongole has returned home with a bronze medal from the 2026 IBA Africa Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC.

Laker, who represents Gulu City Youth Boxing Organization Limited, returned to Gulu City on Tuesday evening, where she received a heroic welcome from excited residents who praised her for raising Uganda’s flag on the continental stage.

The championship, held from October 22nd to 31th , attracted 171 boxers from 28 African countries, including 132 men and 39 women.

Uganda finished eighth overall with four medals, comprising one silver and three bronze, while hosts DR Congo topped the medal table with 17 gold medals.

Laker, who was the only Ugandan female boxer to compete at the championship, told Mega FM that the competition was tough but her determination helped her secure a bronze medal.
