Kawempe North constituency Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, is currently in critical condition. Fresh information from Rubaga Hospital indicates that Ssegirinya is brain-dead, but his body is still alive.
In his latest tweet, quoting doctors at Rubaga Hospital, the National Unity Platform (NUP) party, President, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, says although most of Ssegirinya’s body organs have shut down, doctors haven’t declared him dead.
“When the mother was told that she immediately announced his passing,” said Kyagulanyi. Adding that, “Our teams are on the ground monitoring the situation as well as praying for a miracle.” Ssegirinya has been battling a serious illness since his release from prison after serving one and a half years on charges related to the Masaka machete killings.
The MP, who was jailed alongside Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana, experienced rapid health deterioration, which led to hospitalizations in the Netherlands and Kenya. Known by the moniker Mr. Update, Ssegirinya gained attention through consistent phone calls to radio political shows and his active participation in protests against the regime’s excesses.
His advocacy earned him a councilor position at Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket. He later joined the People Power Movement, which transformed into NUP, under the leadership of Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine.
