The Hoima-based, Kitara Football Club have clinched their second Stanbic Uganda Cup title, edging Sports Club Villa 2-1 in a dramatic final played Saturday, May 30th, at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The 52nd edition of Uganda’s oldest knockout tournament got off to a frantic start when SC Villa took the lead on 12 minutes, after an own goal from Patrick Henry Kaddu.

But Kitara hit back almost immediately, just one minute later, Villa’s Diego Ssemugera bundled the ball into his own net to level the score.

The winner came midway through the match where Jimmy Kalema unleashed a shot past Villa goalkeeper David Lukwago, giving Kitara a 2-1 lead they held to the final whistle.

The victory marks Kitara’s second Uganda Cup triumph, following their 2023-2024 win over NEC at Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium.

The Hoima-based side now cement their place among the country’s cup specialists in a competition that has been running since 1971.

Last year’s 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup was won by Vipers SC. Vipers clinched the trophy by defeating KCCA FC 2-0 in the final last year.
