A senior police officer attached to the Aswa East Regional Police Headquarters, has been arrested in connection to the murder by shooting of a25year old man on Saturday night at Apollo Grounds Cell in Central Division, Kitgum Municipality.
SP Sperito Bainomugisha (47) was arrested on Sunday following the killing of Opoka Christopher, a resident of Mucwini village in Mucwini West sub county.
The deceased body was discovered at around 3:04am by the area local council one Chairperson John Nugomvkra who immediately informed the police.
Hajji Walire Marijan, the Deputy Resident District Kitgum, said the suspect was arrested after preliminary investigations link him to the murder.
According to Walire Marijan, the suspect reportedly used a pistol allocated to him to kill the deceased over unknown reason.
According to the police annual crime report, 188 cases of murder by shooting were reported to Police countrywide in 2024 compared to 300 cases reported in 2023.
