Lamwo Village Chairperson, Witchdoctor Charged with Murder

Emmanuel Akiteng a.k.a Mr. Butaleja, a witch doctor accused of killing five people in Lamwo district, is facing five counts of murder, together with two others.

The two other suspects are; Kenneth Luto, the chairperson of Alimotiko Village, where the crime was committed, and Anthony Mwa, the businessperson who hired the witch doctor to trace thieves who stole his produce.

Akiteng made news a fortnight ago for allegedly killing five people in Palabek Ogili sub-county, in Lamwo district, using charms.

It is alleged Mwa, a resident of Alimotiko village in Labigiryang parish, hired a witch doctor from Gulu to help him recover 19 bags of simsim and shs 3.7 that were stolen from his store in December last year.

Before hiring the witch doctor, he informed the LC One of the village about his intention.

It is reported that after the witch doctor, performed his magic, one person died on February 12, while four others died the following day, leaving eight unconscious.

The witch doctor fled the area, and relatives of surviving victims of the witchcraft were forced to raise Shillings 10 million for their revival, while the witch doctor fled the district. 

William Komakech, the RDC of Lamwo told Mega Fm on Monday that Akiteng was arrested on Friday 21st, from Loro in Oyam district, was produced before the Grade One Magistrate in Lamwo, and was remanded to Lamwo Central Prison.
