Joseph Kony, the alleged Commander-In-Chief of the notorious Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels’ group legal team will appear before a single judge for the hearing for the confirmation of charges proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The elusive rebel leader’s legal team are expected to appear before Judge Althea Violet Alexis-Windsor on October 15, 2024 at seat of the court in The Hague.

The confirmation of charges hearing will be held at Trial Chamber III. The hearing of confirmation of charges for Kony will be held in his absence.

Peter Haynes, a British lawyer has since been appointed by the ICC to represent Kony in the case against him.

In March, ICC issued a decision on the Prosecutor’s request to hold a confirmation of charges hearing in the case against Kony for his alleged role in the over two decades’ long insurgency in northern Uganda.

The Rome Statute allows for the confirmation of charges proceedings at the Pre-Trial stage in the absence of the suspect.

However, if the charges are confirmed, the case can only proceed to trial if the accused is present before the Trial Chamber.
