Police in Nwoya district on Wednesday foiled an attempted robbery of a mobile Money agent at Olwiyo Trading Centre in Purongo sub county and recovered a numberless SMG rifle with three rounds of ammunition.
It’s alleged that two suspects, both wearing black hoods, face mask and riding numberless Red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, stormed a mobile money agent-Saudi Nahalomo- in pretense of cash transaction of UGX 10M
Sensing danger, Nahalomo alerted a local leader who subsequently informed the police, forcing the suspects to flee the scene towards the Ayago–Karuma road.
However police caught up with them leading to a gunfire exchange forcing the suspects to abandon the gun in Ceke village in Lii sub county and fled.
Nwoya District Police Commander, Reagan Magombe, confirmed the incident saying the case has been registered at Nwoya Central Police Station under CRB 280/2025.
This marks the second firearm recovered by police in Nwoya District within a month.
On March 20, 2025, police recovered another rifle that had been stolen on March 13 from Mutseke Peter, a private security guard stationed at Koch Oil Petrol Station in Koch Goma Sub-county. According to the Uganda Police Force’s Annual Crime Report released in March, the country recorded 8,163 robbery cases in 2024—an increase from 7,772 cases in 2023, reflecting a 5% rise.
