One person has been killed and six others injured in Monday morning road crash along the Atiak-Adjumani road in Acopele village, Atiak sub-county in Amuru District.
The victims were travelling in a Sino truck Reg. No. UBQ 451S, loaded with sand, when it lost control and overturned at around 5am killing one person on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Tony Odoch (21), a resident of Lokulia village, Atiak Town Council in Amuru district.
The injured include Opio Isaac (27) the driver, Ochora Geoffrey (24), Okot Patrick (18), Rubangakene Francis (15), Komakech Brian (21) and Polot Patrick (21). They have all been rushed to St Mary’s Hospital Lacor for specialized treatment.
The victims were returning from a sand mining site at Wii-Ayugi River in Adjumani district, heading to Gulu city, when the incident happened.
Phillip Mukasa, the Amuru District Police Commander, confirmed the incident saying the cause of the fatal road crash is being investigated.
According to the 2023 Police annual report, at least 23,608 road crashes were recorded across the country in 2023.
