Teachers have decried the corruption that is rooted in the Education Service Commissions.
Speaking at the pass-out ceremony of 1,372 secondary school teachers from Greater Mbarara and Ntungamo regions who have been undergoing a patriotism course at Ntare School, Mbarara City, Saul Rwamporo, the head teacher Ntare School, said that it has become a challenge to access the payroll, while some teachers have served for over 20 years but have never been considered for promotion or recruitment.
Perez Asiimwe teacher at Kikatsi Secondary School and chair Memorandum of Understanding committee for trainees on behalf of private secondary schools, highlighted several demands to the President that included the addition of computers and science laboratory equipment regulations that guarantee their job security, and those who requested to be government-granted aid be considered.
Janet Museveni, the Minister of Education and Sports, emphasized the free and accessible education to all, noting that learners need to find a patriotic teacher in the school.
She retaliated that the NRM government is working systematically with sincere determination to ensure that the teachers’ hard work is met with fair remuneration.
She further urged the teachers to teach the younger generation to live lives that are free of habits like corruption. President Yoweri Museveni retaliated that the Arts teachers will be catered to, but after the scientists are done.
