Windle Trust International, an international organization in partnership with Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, a Christian denomination yesterday commissioned infrastructure development worth UGX 800M in two community primary schools in refugee settlement camps in West Nile sub region.
Under a partnership signed on April, 1 2025, 2 blocks of 3 classrooms each, office space, 2 stances of drainable pit latrines for both boys and girls and a changing room for the girls were constructed both at Rockland Primary School, a community school in Zone 1, Bidi bidi refugee settlement in Yumbe district and Our Child Primary School in Palorinya refugee settlement camp in Obongi district.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Zone 1, Bidibidi refugee settlement camp, Edward Tunda, the Chairperson School management committee, said that prior to the intervention of the two partners, learners were being taught under trees.
Andrew Emmanuel Omara, the Executive Director of Windle Trust International, said that Uganda, being the third largest refugees hosting countries in Africa, their focus is on providing support and expand access to education.
Patrick Orombi, the President of the Jesus Christ Church of the latter day Saints, Gulu area says as a church, under the temple affairs development, their major focus is to relieve the suffering of God’s children through various projects including education, health, safe water and maternal health among others.
Currently, the school has an enrollment of 3483 learners who were initially using 18 classrooms.
