Gulu Regional Referral Hospital on Thursday resumed providing Computed Tomography CT scan services after haltering the service three months ago following the breakdown of the machine.

A team of Engineers from the Ministry of Health repaired the CT scan machine at cost of UGX 28 million on Wednesday.

The machine broke down in March due to persistent power fluctuations which damaged the machine’s battery and fuse rendering it dysfunctional. This forced the hospital to start referring patients in need of the service to Aber Hospital in Kole District.

Walter Uryek, the Hospital Principal Administrator, confirmed the development to Mega Fm and apologized for the delays in repairing the machine. Uryek said patients will be expected to pay the usual cost of between UGX 120, 000 to UGX 150,000 for the service depending on the diagnosis required.

Computed tomography (CT) scan is a useful diagnostic tool for detecting diseases and injuries. It uses a series of X-rays and a computer to produce a 3D image of soft tissues and bones. CT is a painless, noninvasive way for your healthcare provider to diagnose conditions.
