The sustained crack down on suspected armed robbers in the region have yielded to another fruit following the arrest of another suspect in Amuru district.
The suspect identified as Benson Okech, a resident of Opolacen Cell in Amuru Town Council, was arrested last night after he attempted to rob to a fuel station.
An AK-47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition and a knife were recovered from the suspect. Three of his accomplices managed to escape.
Geoffrey Orsbon Oceng, the Amuru Resident District Commissioner, confirmed the incident, adding that security agencies are hunting for his accomplices.
This brings to nine suspects arrested in the recent joint security operation in the West Acholi sub-region and recovered three firearms.
The Acholi sub-region has recently experienced a troubling spate of armed violence and gun-related attacks.
Recent documented incidents across the region include the shooting to death of a security guard attached to Samurai Security Services, Ronald Obedi on May 5 at LT Energy Petrol Station in Laliya Trading Centre and stole a firearm.
On May 11, assailants raided Lalogi Police Station, strangled a 50-year-old female police officer, and fled with her firearm, on May 16, businessman Wilfred Ojok was shot and killed at Paromo Cell, Awach Town Council. On June 3, armed men raided a mobile money shop in Koch Ongako Trading Centre, shooting and killing the agent and in Agago District, a local businessman was shot dead by armed thugs in early June.
