The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) on Wednesday arrested two suspects found in possession of an illegal firearm.
Olanya Golden Ricky (46), a resident of Ngora village, Lukung sub-county and Atoo Jennifer (28), a resident of Amero village, Aceba sub-county, all in Lamwo District were arrested at Apyeta Army Checkpoint on Atiak-Kitgum road.
They were reportedly travelling from Amuru District to Lamwo District on a Bajaj motorcycle registration number UGG 453U when the army intercepted them at the checkpoint and recovered from them a numberless pistol without ammunition.
The two are currently being held at Lamwo central police station.
Lieutenant Colonel Ipolito Mubangizi, the 1Dumisha Brigade Commander, confirmed the arrest and commended the local communities in Northern Uganda for their cooperation with security forces in the fight against criminal gangs.
