The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 4th Division Infantry has today launched officially launched a series of activities in West Acholi and West Nile sub regions as part of events commemorating the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary.

Tarehe Sita, commemorated annually on February 6, is a symbolic day celebrating the birth of the national army, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF)

It is the day when 27 armed men led by Yoweri Museveni stormed Kabamba barracks, overrun the quarter guard and charged guns on their way to the bush.

The one week long activities will see UPDF soldiers clean several public places including hospitals, markets and schools and also provide free medical services.

Shortly after the launch, UPDF soldiers cleaned Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and five markets in Gulu city including Olai-long, Gulu Main Market, Cereleno Market and Layibi Market.

Speaking during the launch Maj. Gen. Felix Musuzuri, the UPDF 4th Division Infantry Commander, said the community service activities is intended to give back to the community and also to strengthen civil-military relations.

This year’s Tarehe Sita will be celebrated in Kabale District of Kigezi sub-region.
