Territorial police in Zombo district are investigating a serious single-vehicle road crash that occurred on Monday at Nyagak River in Nyagak Village, Tanga Parish, Abanga sub-county, injuring eleven passengers.
The Taxi Reg. No. UBJ 956G, believed to have originated from Hoima City and was destined for one of the areas in Zombo District, reportedly plunged into River at about 12:45pm.
The injured have been identified as Monday Stephen, 53, Adubango Florence, 32, Amiki Godfrey, 22, Kasamba Ronald, 32, Thoringo Joyce, 35, Atyeronimungu Gladys, 22, Orach Santorina, Abiro Rose, 45 and Acen Scovia 11.
Others are Maditrwoth Crispa, 4, and a three-month-old infant identified as Anyomirwoth.
Two other victims, Enzu Stephen and Semirwoth, had their ages not readily established by press time.
According to police, the vehicle is alleged to have suffered brake failure upon reaching Nyagak River, causing it to plunge into the river.
Josephine Angucia, the police spokesperson for the West Nile region, confirmed the incident adding that the victims were rushed to various health facilities for treatment and that no fatalities were recorded.
Angucia adds that preliminary investigations point to brake failure as the suspected cause of the crash. Inquiries are ongoing under Zombo TAR 25/2026. In 2024, a beverage truck also plunged at the same spot.
