Police in Kole district are investigating a case of murder by shooting involving a Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) officer in the district.
Private Samson Koboi (27) attached to 103 Battalion, Lira barracks shot Santo Olwit (27) to death and injured Allan Elma (19) while on duty at Akak cell, Akalo Sub County, along the Lira-Kwania road on Sunday at 8:30pm.
According to police report, private Koboi was attacked by Olwit and another unidentified person while on duty and the duo allegedly attempted to disarm him, promoting a violent struggle and in the process private Koboi fire live bullets in self-defense shooting Olwit dead and a stray bullet injuring Elma.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga regional police spokesperson confirmed the report saying private Koboi has been arrested and handed over to the UPDF in Lira while the Elam has been rushed to Lira regional referral hospital for treatment and deceased body of Olwit conveyed to the mortuary.
According to 2024 Police Annual crime reports, a total of 188 cases of Murder by Shooting were reported to the Police countrywide in 2024 compared to 300 cases reported in 2023
