Residents of Wii-Layibi Cell in Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu City on Saturday woke up to shocking news after stray dogs ate an aborted fetus.
The fetus, believed to be eight month, is said to have been dumped in a rubbish pit by an unidentified woman who aborted her pregnancy.
Jackson Olango, the area Defence Secretary, told Mega Fm that they found when the dogs had already eaten the head and legs.
Abortion in Uganda is illegal unless performed by a licensed medical doctor in a situation where the woman’s life is deemed to be at risk.
With women lacking access to safe and legal abortions, many of them turn to unsafe abortion practices, such as self-induced abortions.
According to reports by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, 28% of women abort their pregnancies on a monthly basis.
