Authorities have transferred prison warder Moses Anguyo, the prime suspect in the shooting of four people at Kiboga Prisons, to Kiboga Central Police Station, where he is set to face murder charges. Security operatives arrested Anguyo on Saturday in Aru Town in the Democratic Republic of Congo during a joint operation involving Ugandan and Congolese security forces.
Authorities then extradited him to Uganda through Arua District (Vurra), where police and prison officers took him into custody. Investigators arrested Anguyo alongside his two brothers and girlfriend, who reportedly provided information that led to his capture. Uganda Prisons Service spokesperson Frank Baine confirmed the development on Sunday, saying the suspect is now in custody and will be arraigned in court.
“The Commissioner General of Prisons congratulates joint security operation teams that apprehended murder suspect Moses Anguyo in Aru town. He is currently being detained at Kiboga Central Police Station and will be produced in court to answer for his crimes,” Baine said in a brief statement.
On February 23, 2026, Anguyo, who was attached to Kiboga Prisons, allegedly opened fire on his supervisors after being cautioned over the use of WhatsApp during working hours. During the incident, he reportedly shot and killed Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, the deputy officer in charge, and Principal Officer One Bright Akishuri, the third in command at Kiboga Prisons.
Police say Anguyo later went to the residence of the officer in charge, intending to attack him, but instead found his wife, Sarah Ayebare, whom he allegedly shot dead. A one-year-old child, Salson Nuwagaba, was struck by a stray bullet during the shooting and later died at Kiboga Hospital while receiving treatment.
After the attack, Anguyo reportedly abandoned the firearm, fled to a nearby shop, changed out of his prison uniform into civilian clothes, and disappeared. Security agencies, including the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, have been pursuing him for more than three weeks before tracking him to DR Congo through his relatives.
The arrest comes weeks after the Uganda Prisons Service announced a UGX 10 million bounty for information leading to his capture.
