The Northern Region took a major step in developing young football talent after hosting a two-day Federation of Uganda Football Associations, FUFA Schools of Excellence Football Clinic at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu City from May 19th to 20th.
The clinic brought together players from Acholi and Lango provinces for identification and training trials under the FUFA Technical Master Plan and the Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA Talent Development Scheme.
Northern Region Football Association Chairman Okot Christopher Chapa said he was pleased with the strong turnout and mobilization for the event, noting that many talented players turned up for the trials.
He explained that the program is important for the region, which has long lagged behind despite having a wealth of talent, and expressed happiness that the clinic had given the players a platform to showcase their abilities.
Okot added that he believes the initiative will help produce the talent needed for the national team in the near future, and thanked FUFA for the program while pledging continued collaboration to ensure its success.
The Schools of Excellence Football Clinics are designed to identify and nurture talent at the school level as part of FUFA’s long-term plan to strengthen Uganda’s football pipeline.
